Activities: Special education is currently being provided to 25,238 students across 517 schools. There are special classes and mainstream education for students with special needs. Regulations have just been renewed to provide a more effective service for children with visual impairments, who can now attend schools in Ankara, Istanbul and Kahramanmaras. The Directorate's aim is to extend this education to other schools by providing guidance and meeting the needs of schools to enable them to cater for visually impaired children. Studies are also being carried out into increasing the quality of mainstream education for those with visual impairments. In addition there are 15 borading schools for the blind in Turkey.
